Computing is something too serious to be left to machines. Humans must know what's going on in the machine, exhaustively. Otherwise, there can be no serious talk of cybersecurity and sovereignty. However, no technology allows it today. The mass of knowledge needed to understand 100% of what's going on in the machine no longer fits into a human brain, not even close. And yet, faced with the challenges of digital technology and modern AI, humans must not surrender to the fantastic machine they have created, they must remain in control of it: there's no choice but to trust the human being. The dignity of humankind is at stake. The way software is developed today brings too much complexity and opacity. Calculation may be light and easy, but software still relies on complex libraries, cumbersome frameworks, and massive operating systems. Even opensource libraries can be considered as black boxes when they apply the saying “If it was hard to write, it should be hard to understand”. Are we so afraid of writing a simple function? Then the hard truth is to admit that most of our systems are out of control. If we want to bring computing back within reach of the human brain, we need simplicity and transparency. A new Minimalism is required. There is no other way to achieve security, sustainability, and sovereignty. Minimalism means: - less knowledge required: fewer and smaller languages, fewer data formats, - less magic: one can easily follow the sequence of calculations, without hidden parts, just as you would read a short novel, - fewer dependencies, no black box, and not even an operating system! At the end of the day, minimalism means better understanding and better control... ... and ultimately more fun! Minimacy combines a concise, secure high-level language with a tiny, crystal-clear virtual machine which can run without an operating system. Enter Minimacy and things will never be the same! \ \ [](html) Minimacy is a solo project by Sylvain Huet. Sylvain Huet is a French engineer and entrepreneur, graduate of Ecole Polytechnique (X91). He was a pioneer of virtual worlds with the Second World in the 90s, and iOTs with the Nabaztag in the 2000s. He has participated in the creation of a dozen tech startups. To carry out all these projects, Sylvain has developed powerful tools, based on virtual machines and pragmatic ML-style languages. Now is the time to share the best of them, Minimacy, with the community. [More about Sylvain](https://sylvain-huet.com/)
